Route Description:

Starting in the town of Aberfoyle, a popular stop for tourists visiting the Scottish Highlands, we begin our bike tour with a relaxed cycle on tarmac roads along the banks of Loch Ard, with great views of Ben Lomond looming in the distance. Our route then gains elevation for the next 4 miles as it passes Loch Chon, before leveling out to give a perfect view point of the dramatic mountain landscape around. The road then descends towards the village of Stronalachar, situated on the banks Loch Katrine, where we can stop for some delicious homemade food and a coffee at the Pier Cafe, while taking in the stunning views accross Loch Katrine and the Highlands.

Refueled and watered, the next stage of our bike tour skirts around the north shore of Loch Katrine, along a very quiet and well maintained local access road. The route dips and rises along the length of the Loch Katrine, giving a different view of the loch at the top of each rise. Have a thoughtful moment as we pass the walled graveyard of the MacGregor clan, where the family of folk hero 'Rob Roy' have been burying their dead for hundreds of years. If you're lucky enough, you might also get to see the SS Sir Walter Scott steamship chugging her way along Loch Katrine. This fine looking passenger ship has been ferrying tourists around the loch since 1900.

The final 8 miles of our route taking over the popular Dukes Pass, which is widely considered one the Scotland’s most scenic roads. This is a busier road with regular passing traffic, and relatively steep climbs. Although the final 3 mile descent back into Aberfoyle is well worth the effort, with amazing views across the Forth Valley.
