We and many of our customer’s think this is a must do tour to complement a first trip to Scotland’s Capital. Our Auld Reekie bike tour starts at the vibrant 'Shore of Leith', looping clockwise around Edinburgh along 21 miles of mainly traffic free cycle paths. The route takes us along the shore of the 'Firth of Forth' to the historic seaside town of 'Portobello', then weaves through Edinburgh along ancient trade routes including 'The Innocent Railway' - Edinburgh's first railway - and the Union Canal, before joining the 'Water of Leith' for a relaxed cycle home past some of the city's hidden must see sights.

Route Description

Our 'Auld Reekie' bike tour begins at the Shore of Leith, a vibrant place with plenty of exciting waterside bars, restaurants and cafes that include several Michelin star winners, and our Queen’s favourite ship the Royal Yacht Britannia.

We start by heading east along cycle paths following the shore of the Firth of Forth estuary to the once popular seaside resort of Portobello. From here we follow the route of the now defunct Innocent Railway, Edinburgh's oldest railway line, skirting the base of Arthurs Seat as the tour brings us towards the city centre. Our journey then takes us past the University and in into the Meadows, a large park frequented by Edinburgh's students to the south of the Old Town.

After a refreshment break, we begin the second half of our bike tour joining another ancient trade route, the Union Canal, for some relaxed level riding along its meandering towpath. For the final leg of our journey we join the Water of Leith walkway, taking us through historically interesting and scenic areas of Edinburgh, not so easily found by the regular tourist. After a break and some refreshments, we begin the second half of our bike tour joining another ancient trade route, the Union Canal, for some relaxed level riding along its meandering towpath.
